We're often reminded in our adolescence, the importance of how we treat others, but rare is the occasion when we're chastised for not being kind to ourselves. We're taught early on to be receptive of compliments, but not to actually SELF-compliment. Could that be the reason why we become our worse critique later on in life?

This is so true. If we're taught to appreciate things about ourselves at an early age it can prevent us from actually believing things that's others say about is tht may be negative. It will teach us to receive the accolades as well as the constructive criticism.

Just read you recent article, it was a great read, and really connected with me. I've always been a low key, shy person, and never welcomed acknowledgement, or praise very well, especially from myself. So as a coping mechanism, I've always downplayed my successes, until recently. As I've grown older I realized how much of a disservice it is to myself, to cheat myself, so I've began cheering me on more. At my graduation last week my attitude was different. I was proud, excited, and it showed. I took lots of pictures, and did not try to be in the background.
